It Shouldn't Hurt

Description

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Every year, this DJ in my area puts on an event called Live for 175. Each year he changes what he's doing to bring awareness to child abuse, and this year they're doing Cycle to Break the Cycle again (where the radio station is powered for 7 days straight by people in the community volunteering time to ride bikes), but the twist is that the DJ--Keke--is staying up during the entire event.

I went and rode a bike for ten minutes yesterday, on my way out of town. Since I won't be back until the event is long over, I decided to make a signature to help spread the message. Which, this signature actually came together really easily, unlike my past few...

You can learn more about the event here, and there is also a livestream to watch/listen and a chat if you need somebody to talk to.

They do seem to have some kind of technical error with the livestream on their site, as it's too zoomed in, so I've been watching/chatting on the more direct link here.

Be warned that the radio will start playing as soon as you go to either page.

Keke has touched so many lives over the years, and his message has caused some child in abusive situations to realize it's not okay and to reach out. His message has also brought healing to those who have been abused in the past.

It shouldn't hurt to be a child.

Will you? by Blogster is a short but beautiful poem about the facades those who are being abused put on. Sometimes the signs of abuse aren't so clear. Sometimes we need to look deeper.

This is an awesome thing that you're doing, and thank you for choosing my poem to be a part of your awareness campaign.
